Objectives

b4f2655b42080f985d8c28e51dd0fe3e_sDiD Risk Monitor analyze and investigate the following things in advance by using computer simulation.

  • Whether the people can cope with the emergency situation such as a natural disaster and a major accident timely.
  • Whether the people can cooperate properly and timely with other people in that situation.
  • Whether the people can understand their manual and do the action using the manual.
  • Potential problems in the manual and the team work.

Computer simulation

fa1f6e6b8e7da5eb17df9c9d07014828_mThe emergency situation and the behaviors of the people coping with the situation are simulated in a computer. The behaviors are played according to the given scenario data.

In other words, the computer provides emergency scene on stage and the virtual actors plays their role along their scenario on the stage.

Just seeing the drama in the computer, we can find the people can cope with the emergency situation well, the cooperation among them can be done properly & timely, the scenario data is well described in detail, the resource (a number of people to cope with and tools) are enough or not and so on.

We call the computer simulation “Interaction simulation”.

How to combine “DiD Risk Monitor” with an emergency drill?

49a012cfbd9a551f9035eaac1cab3e44_mAn emergency drill is very good way for the people to understand their role and find the problems of their scenario data, lack of the resource and time etc.

But the drills can not be done iteratively to change the condition (weather, time of occurrence, modification of the scenario data etc) because of the huge cost and time to conduct the drill.

“DiD Risk Monitor” can simulates the emergency situation and the interaction among the people iteratively with low cost and time.

So, the best practice is “DiD Risk Monitor” should be applied from the initial phase of investigating the emergency scenario and the role of the people, “Emergency drill” should be conducted after the characters of the emergency situation are well understood, the scenario data is enough improved and the required resources are identified by the “DiD Risk Monitor”.
